Vatican finds evolution and religion are compatible

There's a remarkable story that came out of the Vatican this week, just in time for Darwin's 200th birthday. An analysis in the UK Telegraph newspaper summarizes it as " The Vatican has admitted that Charles Darwin's [right] theory of evolution should not have been dismissed and claimed it is compatible with the Christian view of Creation."

There is a papal-sponsored conference next month in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the publication of "On the Origin of Species" which is expected to examine "Intelligent Design" as a cultural phenomenon rather than legitimate science or theology.

We can hope that this takes some of the steam out of the anti-science forces who have tried to pit science and religion against each other, to advance their own political agendas.
