Robust growth in geothermal energy projects

The Geothermal Energy Association announced that 188 geothermal projects in 15 states could produce as much as 7,875 megawatts.  The number of projects in 2009 was up 26%.  They also said that federal stimulus funding "will result in over $600 million of research into new technology at 135 projects in 25 states over the next two years."

A story about this in the NY Times also says the "Treasury Department has awarded seven geothermal developers more than $154 million in Section 1603 tax credits."

AZGS is playing a lead role in development and deployment of the DOE-funded National Geothermal Data System (NGDS - www.geothermaldata.org) to make technical information readily available online to enhance geothermal exploration and development.
