Half million sand bags to hold back Flagstaff post-fire floods

"More than a half-million sandbags are now in the flood area, and large concrete barriers sit around 160 homes," according to Andy Bertelsen, Coconino County public works director as reported in the Arizona [Flagstaff] Daily Sun.

The Timberline and Doney Park neighborhoods were hit by repeated floods after last summer's Schultz fire on forest lands upslope and have been preparing for more monsoon-generated floods this year and perhaps for 3-5 years more, until revegetation stabilizes hillsides.
