Phytosaur excavation in progress

Paleontologist Bill Parker who blogs at Chinleana, has started what promises to be a near real-time chronicle of recovering a phytosaur skull near Petrified Forest National Park.

Yesterday's first post shows what appear to be simply scattered fragments of bone on the ground surface. But Bill and his colleagues' keen eyes recognized the pattern of a skull and found harder, intact material below. It should be fun to watch their progress over the next few days.
