Earth science public policy wiki
The Geological Society of America has launched a new "online geoscience-based networking tool, [Policycomnet], to assist GSA members in planning communications with public policy officials about how the outcomes of their specific upcoming public policy issues can be improved by consideration of certain geoscience insights."
The wiki is intended to get GSA members actively engaged in developing new public policy statements in a collaborative process, share lessons learned from previous efforts, and celebrate successes.
It's great to see something of substance for geoscience policy. The standard among most professional and scientific societies is for the incoming president to write a column in the monthly newsletter about the need for members to get involved in the political and policy process. These are routinely ignored by the membership.
Let's see how far Craig Schiffries, GSA's DC coordinator, and GSA's Geology and Public Policy Committee and Division of Geology and Society
can take this effort.
